The Bible holds much truth, stories, and historicity. It also includes parables and wisdom. The Roman Catholic Church originally put these into verses. This compilation was known as the Latin Vulgate. The Latin Vulgate was later translated into English. Yes, the original Bible comes to us straight from the Roman Catholic Church.
Many have a problem with this fact, yet it is irrefutable. Many of those same people have a problem with The Roman Catholic teaching of transubstantiation1. They also have a problem with the protestant teaching of consubstantiation2.
I want to bring these two subjects together. The partaking of the body and blood of Jesus the Christ is 100% biblical.
Every Christian will agree that in Mathew 26:26 Jesus says”, “Take, eat; this is My body.” or in Mark 14:22, “Take, eat: this is my body.” I’m going to use these two very direct verses. You can look into the many references to these verses throughout scripture.
I will break down both verses and what the Scripture has to say in the Koine Greek3.
Both read, in the original language:
“Take Λάβετε (Labete) Verb – Aorist Imperative Active – 2nd Person Plural Strong’s Greek 2983: (a) I receive, get, (b) I take, lay hold of.
[and] eat; φάγετε (phagete) Verb – Aorist Imperative Active – 2nd Person Plural Strong’s Greek 5315: A primary verb; to eat.
this τοῦτό (touto) Demonstrative Pronoun – Nominative Neuter Singular Strong’s Greek 3778: This; he, she, it.
is ἐστιν (estin) Verb – Present Indicative Active – 3rd Person Singular Strong’s Greek 1510: I am, exist. The first person singular present indicative; a prolonged form of a primary and defective verb; I exist.
My μου (mou) Personal / Possessive Pronoun – Genitive 1st Person Singular Strong’s Greek 1473: I, the first-person pronoun. A primary pronoun of the first person I.
body. σῶμά (sōma) Noun – Nominative Neuter Singular Strong’s Greek 4983: Body, flesh.
We could do the same with the blood of Christ in the next verse and would see the same. Christ is speaking of himself/his physical body and his actual blood. All Christian believed this in the first centuries AD and it has been written about by church fathers. Here is a link you will find helpful regarding the Church Father’s thoughts on the Eucharist.
All Christians believe in the concept of communion. This concept stems from the last supper. Many protestant denominations refuse to agree with the Catholic and Orthodox Churches even though that is where there denomination originates.
The Christ makes a commandment and many Christians deny Him.
The purpose of this post is not to convert anyone to any religion. Many are ignoring Christ. They choose what they are told by a minister over what the Word says. Th Word is Christ. I am asking all Christians to get back to a communion. They should adopt a communion that honors Christ’s commandment. Get back to Holy Communion. Holy Communion and not a preacher as the central part of “praise/worship” should never replace Holy Communion. Partaking in the Yes, BODY and Yes, BLOOD of Christ. Holy Communion should, at the very least, be central to any Christian service.
I came across a video that I would like to share with you. It provides a more thorough insight than any I have seen with regards to The Eucharist/Holy Communion. enJOY.
- The Catholic Church believes in transubstantiation, where the bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Christ. ↩︎
- Consubstantiation is a Christian theological doctrine that, like transubstantiation, describes the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. According to this view, during the sacrament, the substance of the body and blood of Christ coexists alongside the substance of the bread and wine, which remain present. ↩︎
- The New Testament was written in a form of Koine Greek, which was the common language of the Eastern Mediterranean from the conquests of Alexander the Great (335–323 BC) until the evolution of Byzantine Greek (c. 600). ↩︎
